MAHK JCHI Fundraiser for Missing, Murdered, Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit MMIWG2S

MAHK JCHI Fundraiser for Missing, Murdered, Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit MMIWG2S

Mahk Jchi

Last year, October 10, 2020, I had a vision in my dreams. I saw moccasin shoes dancing, dancing on the earth, dancing for life and dancing for all those who have walked before us, who walk with us now, and for those who will be here long after we have gone.

In the vision, I also saw women dancing for those lost, murdered or missing. I reached out to each dancer in this video for permission to include their sacred dance in this project. This vision made it clear to me. This song and the vision for the music video are to bring continued awareness of MMIWG2S. We wish to support the families and communities left behind. All the proceeds from this song would support the cause.

Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirts are being taken from us in an alarming way. Please contribute to this cause.

100% of the proceeds from the download of the single goes to MMIWG2S.

Suggested price: $5.00

Ena Vie and Howard Lipp’s personal story behind the song Mahk Jchi

This song holds deep meaning for me (Ena). It is an honor and I have loved singing it for many years in ceremonial and sacred spaces. I am grateful for Pura Fé, Soni Moreno and Jennifer Kreisberg for writing this song years ago, and for giving us permission to share our version with a larger audience. My husband, Howard Lipp, and I have sung this song together in ceremonial circles over the past 15 years. We produced this song together and released it on our latest album, Sono Ceremonia, released in the Spring of 2021.

A year passed, filled with so many challenges in our political, collective and personal inner and outer landscapes. I have also experienced some personal loss and challenges this year that set me back. And then, in September 2021, I awakened in the middle of the night with the inspiration to complete this project. And so – after much love and time poured into this creation, we are honored and grateful to share this with you.

Missing, Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit (MMIWG2S)

Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people are being taken from us in an alarming way. The majority of these murders are committed by non-Native people on Native-owned land. The lack of communication combined with jurisdictional issues between state, local, federal, and tribal law enforcement, make it nearly impossible to begin the investigative process.

This song is a tribute to the strength and resilience of people who have endured the onslaught of colonialism, racism, genocide and continue to sing, dance, and remember their ancestors and their heritage.

Won’t you please help us support bringing justice for people whom the justice system has forgotten?

    You can make a difference!

Please contribute to this cause. When you purchase the single, Mahk Jchi, 100% of the proceeds from the download goes to MMIWG2S.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this song, music video and mission with others.

    Lyrics to Mahk Jchi

Our hearts are full and our minds are good

Our ancestors come and give us strength

    Stand tall, sing, dance

And never forget who you are

    Or where you come from
